Disability & me - Raising awareness through Art.

Paintings are Acrylic on canvas and varying sizes.

I have mild Cerebral Palsy and a neurological movement disorder called Dystonia. It affects approx 70,000 people in the U.K and many more worldwide although is not very well known. There are many forms of Dystonia and many names. It causes involuntary muscle spasms that can happen anywhere in your body, any place at any time. Some cases are more severe than others. Some people have one or more than one type. It can cause contortions and twisting of the muscles, shakes, uncontrollable movements and spasms. There are some medicines that can give temporary relief and the use of Botox (Botulinum Toxin) can give temporary relief. There is still no known cure.  Some of my artwork is in response to the way that one form of Dystonia called 'Spasmodic torticollis' or 'Cervical Dystonia (the neck)' affects me. It pulls my head round and up to the left.
It's a 'pain in the neck' but makes life quite interesting and challenging.
